Cambridge Analytica: Joining the Dots with Anonymous & Žižek

No surprise when we learn of Palantir Technologies’ involvement in the Trump campaign, alongside Cambridge Analytica. There’s even a third intelligence agency called Quid, but what of Wikileaks? Is it even likely they would be playing ball with Palantir, and its co-founder Peter Thiel? He is also the founder of Paypal, who staged the world-wide blockade of Wikileaks funding. It’s hard to imagine, and Slavoj Žižek has aptly signalled how at odds their agendas are: “Assange characterized himself as the spy of and for the people: he is not spying on the people for those in power, he is spying on those in power for the people”. Peter Thiel also sits on the board of Facebook, and was the site’s first major investor.

Cambridge Analytica News – Cathy Vogan on RTR FM 92.1

“What we have now is scary cross-talk between the tech companies that store our personal information, intelligence agencies, election campaign service providers such as Cambridge Analytica, and the politicians themselves.” Cathy Vogan Continue reading

CAMBRIDGE ANALYTICA, TRUMP & BREXIT – can we just talk about the real problem?

Speaking at a Sydney ‘Politics in the Pub’ event last month, Cathy Vogan, founder of THING2THING.COM and author of ‘The Wikileaks Tapes’, offered a comprehensive view of how the use of behavioural micro-targeting, big data and psychometrics by Cambridge Analytica got Donald Trump elected, and led to a vote for Brexit. This is an update of that talk. Continue reading

PRISM BREAK

Why is it important to have a Wikileaks Party in Australia? Perhaps, no more important than to have one in the US, New Zealand, Canada or the UK, since these countries form the “5 EYES” alliance which surveilles every citizen … Continue reading

JULIAN ASSANGE LIVE BROADCAST TO AUSTRALIA

The Internet has been transformed into a militarily occupied state. When all of our private communications, heart felt, the inner core of our life, communications between boyfriends and girlfriends, husbands and wives, sons and daughters, between business partners, even between bureaucracies and states; when all those communications are swept up, hovered up into a vast collection apparatus, indexed and stored for all time available only to a select few… then we are in the situation where we have a tank on the street of the inner core of our lives, where we have a soldier under our bed, listening to everything that a husband and wife says to one another when they are communicating by email or sms. The penetration of the digital on civilian life is also the penetration of the military and intelligence agencies of civilian life.” Julian Assange Continue reading

Lindskog Hopes No More Illegal Rendition & London Interrogation OK

“I would like to comment upon the possibility of the prosecutor to go to London. It is possible that the prosecutor could travel to London and interrogate him there. I have no answer to the question why that hasn’t happened.” Justice Stefan Lindskog, Supreme Court of Sweden Continue reading

Julian Burnside vs Justice Stefan Lindskog

I was sent an audio recording of Julian Burnside’s speech last night at the University of Adelaide. It was pretty low volume but I’ve manage to make most of it clear and audible. It is regrettable that more professionally generated documentation of the other voices in the debate with Justice Stefan Lindskog of the Supreme Court of Sweden has not be made available. How is it a debate at all, one might ask, when the organisers live stream ONLY one side of it? Continue reading

Wikileaks and the ‘Underground’ Party Tour – don’t miss it!

Of particular note was the solidarity expressed by the filmmakers and cast with their subject. No surprise, given the track record of award-winning director, Rob Connolly, in making politically conscious films, such as ‘Balibo’, and ‘The Bank’, where the gap between art and life has merely been widened to protect the innocent. Rob muses as I quote Alexa O’Brian’s fleeting tweet: “We don’t need any more Hollywood film scripts. We need transcripts of what’s actually happening in the court room”, and we are both reminded of Assange’s recent gripes regarding the proposed opening scenes of ‘The Fifth Estate’. A sequel to ‘Underground’ is apparently not out of the question… Continue reading
